" Let's run across Idaho.That's a terrible idea. But okay.Good thing it's a narrow state.What time? "

– Tom

ROUTE:

  • The run starts in Newport, WA at the Pend Oreille River bridge (state line) and ends at the opposite state line.
  • You may choose as your finish line: The Welcome to Idaho Sign (facing east), the actual Idaho/Montana state line (unmarked), or the Welcome to Montana sign. The two signs are about 1 mile apart, with the official state line in between the two. Your choice.
  • The route must follow the map above, using the Dufort Road route across Long Bridge.

TIME:

  • Total time to complete (including one sleep break) must not exceed 28 hours.
  • Total time spent running (including short breaks) must not exceed 20 hours.
  • The run can span across a 2-day period and include one sleep break overnight, as long as the 28 hours are not exceeded.
  • One day (or period without sleep) must include at least 50 miles minimum.

BREAKS:

  • Short breaks are allowed and recommended for hydration, food, bathroom and shoe changes.
  • Support vehicle(s) allowed.

WALKING:

  • Covering any distance by walking is not allowed, except for very brief moments, like crossing a road, drinking water, or getting up to speed for the first 20 or so steps from a break.
  • The distance should be 99.9% done running, and can be run as slow as needed.

FUNDRAISING:

  • Yes, you can use this as a great fundraiser!

A NOTE ON PACE FROM RAI #1:

  • We chose not to sit or lie down during the breaks, unless for stretching.
  • We ran at an average 12-min/mile pace (5 miles per hour), which would have put us at exactly 16 hours of run time, but we took a few more breaks at the end, resulting in an extra half hour of time. 16.50 total.
